Ekukhanyeni’ Zimesele Pre-School Project

Our former Managing Director, James Gareh took part in an Iron Man Competition in August 2007. On his arrival from the UK in sunny SA he set out to find a worthy cause. He selected the Ekukhanyeni' Zimesele Pre-School Project, out of a choice of literally 1000's of needy causes, seeing a future in this group of struggling pre-schoolers. He has since completed this marathon effort with a 3.8km swim, 112 mile cycled and a full marathon in 12 hours and 38 min - only! This incredible feat raised over R100 000 for our charity project. IIR SA is extremely proud!

IIR SA has since decided to put their full support behind this goal by opening its heart and purse strings to this group of young children. The sole aim of Ekukhanyeni' Zimesele Pre-School Project is to provide a place of learning, safety and comfort. The lady who keeps this going currently does so at her own expense. And so to work we go! The team of IIR is working closely together with the guardians of this project to meet more than just a financial need - we want to purchase water tankers, educational material, games, clothing, food and maybe some building, but also establish a vegetable garden to 'teach them how to fish', as the saying goes. In addition we are looking at providing relevant training for the not-for-profit staff and beneficiaries.

We are proud to be involved in something that will better the future of young people on an educational level but we recognise that a hungry tummy cannot learn and an 'illiterate' youngster will battle for a place in the race of life. Our goal is to support these 'smiling, happy faces' in their endeavour to get an education and so provide a brighter future!
